The Big Question: AI in Podcasting — Time-Saver or Creativity Killer?
The panel’s main topic was a hot one: “AI in podcasting”. Specifically, we explored whether AI is a helpful shortcut or a threat to authentic creativity. It’s a tricky balance — one I’ve grappled with plenty in my own business, Northern.
Let’s be honest: I’m not always the most responsible user of AI. I’ve tested it, played around, and yes, occasionally asked it to write things it probably shouldn’t have. But despite the occasional missteps, I’ve also seen firsthand how incredibly powerful it can be when we get it right.
How AI Helps (Without Taking Over)
AI genuinely helps streamline creative workflows at Northern. It lets me repurpose content effortlessly, manage those tedious admin tasks (like chasing invoices — huge win!), and frees up time so my team and I can focus more on strategy and creativity.
But — and this is a important point — it’s never the full picture. It isn’t strategy. It isn’t vision. It isn’t that human spark that truly connects with an audience. Throughout the panel, this theme echoed loud and clear: AI is the tool. We’re the voice. And that human element is something AI simply can’t replicate.
A Huge Thanks to My Fellow Panellists and Organisers
I was lucky enough to share the stage with some fantastic individuals, each bringing valuable insights: Ashleigh King (MBA), Danika Stochosky, and Nic Redman, who hosted the panel brilliantly. Big thanks also go out to Peter and Dawn at Cluarantonn, who organised this superb event, making sure every detail was spot-on.
Inspiration Beyond the Panel
The panel was just one part of a packed schedule. I enjoyed brilliant talks from Robert Little, Deb Ions, Iain Wheeldon, and Becca Brighty. These speakers reminded me why live events — and the human interactions they foster — matter so much.
Why AI Will Never Replace Events Like Podcast Paddock
Events like Podcast Paddock reinforce one key lesson: AI might do a lot of things very well, but it can’t replace genuine human connection, collaboration, and creativity. It can’t replicate those spontaneous moments, the laughs, or the insightful discussions that happen when passionate people gather together.
AI is an incredible resource — it helps Northern and our clients achieve amazing things. But ultimately, it’s a tool. It’s there to amplify and support us, never replace us.
Here’s to more events like Podcast Paddock, more honest conversations about technology, and more unforgettable mornings that feel a little bit like Friday nights.
