Real Engineers,
On Every Page.
Harry Burnicle has been an electrical contractor in Sunderland since 1981. They needed a brochure that fits their presentation folders and shows the whole business. We designed it, built it around photos of their own team and kept going with logo artwork, icons, letterheads and flyers.
- WHO — Harry Burnicle Electrical & Mechanical Contractors
- WHAT — Brochure Design, Design Concepts, Print, Logo Artwork, Service Icons, Letterheads, Flyer Design
- WHEN — 2019 – 2021
- WHERE — Sunderland, Tyne & Wear
- HOW — Three concepts, one finished brochure and a set of print pieces that all match it
One Brochure,
Every Service.
Harry Burnicle started out as an electrical contractor in 1981. Since then the business has added plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, building, joinery and fit-out. Their own draft brochure had the words but not the look. The brief was clear: a brochure for marketing that fits the A4 presentation folders they already use, matches the brand people know, and explains every division in one place.
- Must fit the existing A4 presentation folders
- On brand with the Harry Burnicle blue and grey
- Covers every division, from electrical to fit-out
Three Routes,
Shown as Print.
We presented three concepts, each mocked up as a printed brochure so the team could judge the real thing. Concept one used bold blue diagonals over city architecture. Concept two used stacked triangles in teal and charcoal. Concept three used the curve of the logo swoosh. The finished brochure grew out of the first route.
- Three complete cover and spread designs
- Every concept mocked up as a printed piece
- Final design developed from concept one
Twenty Pages,
Easy to Scan.
The finished brochure runs to 20 landscape A4 pages. It opens with the company story, the team, the mission, the customer base and health and safety. Then each division gets its own section: electrical, fire safety, mechanical, plumbing and heating, air conditioning and refrigeration, renewables, fit-out and maintenance. Each service list is short and easy to scan, so a facilities manager can find what they need fast. It closes with the reasons to choose Harry Burnicle and the accreditations that matter to buyers, from Gas Safe and NICEIC to CHAS and Constructionline.
- 20 landscape A4 pages, set in Montserrat
- A section for each division, with clear service lists
- Accreditations page for tenders and buyers
- A second version made without the fit-out pages
Their Team,
Not Stock Models.
Stock photos of smiling builders don’t win contracts. The brochure uses a new set of photos of Harry Burnicle’s own engineers at work, taken in July 2019 from a shot list the team wrote: testing fire alarm panels, working in plant rooms, wiring distribution boards and fitting boilers and radiators. The directors were photographed going over drawings next to the liveried vans. Stock images only fill the gaps, like the renewables and interiors pages.
- Real engineers in company workwear
- Shot to a list of real jobs and real sites
- Liveried vans and branded hi-vis in shot
Clean Artwork,
Six Icons.
To print the brochure properly we needed clean logo artwork. We set up the Harry Burnicle swoosh logo with and without the “Electrical & Mechanical Contractors” line, for light and dark backgrounds. We also drew a set of six service icons in navy: electrical, mechanical and plumbing, building and maintenance, air conditioning, interior fit-outs and fire safety. The icons are on the brochure cover, the letterheads and the flyers.
- Logo with and without the strapline
- Six matching service icons
- Supplied as AI, PDF and SVG
Blue and Grey,
Used the Same Way.
The brand colours come straight from the logo: two blues from the top of the swoosh and a soft grey from the bottom, with a deeper navy for the icons. We used them the same way on every page. Blue rules and headings, grey body text, plenty of white space. That way the brochure, the letterheads and the flyers all look like they come from one company.
- Palette taken from the existing logo
- Navy added for icons and small text
- Montserrat for headings and body copy
Letterheads
to Match.
Once the brochure was done, the letterheads came next. They have the logo top left, the service list with its icons top right, and the registered office and contact details along the foot. The accreditation logos sit along the bottom, so they appear on every quote and letter the office sends out.
- Logo and service icons in the header
- Accreditation logos on every page
- Matches the brochure palette and type
A Flyer for
Funded Heating.
In 2021 Harry Burnicle came back for GreenLogic, its trading style for energy-saving work. GreenLogic needed a double-sided flyer to explain government ECO3 funding for new boilers, electric heating and insulation. The front asks one question: are you eligible? It lists the qualifying benefits and gives one phone number. The back shows the steps from first call to installation, plus a referral offer. We designed it and organised the print run.
- Double-sided flyer for ECO3 funded heating
- Eligibility list and one clear phone number
- Step-by-step process on the reverse
- Designed and printed by us
