Heat Pumps,
Solar and Trust.
RetroFlow Group fit air source heat pumps, solar panels, batteries and insulation across the North East. They were a brand new business asking homeowners to spend serious money. We built a website that shows the accreditations up front, explains the grants plainly and lets people get an estimate in a minute, then kept improving it as the business grew.
- WHO — RetroFlow Group Ltd, home energy retrofit installers
- WHAT — Web Design & Build, Estimate Tools, Grant & Finance Pages, Email Signatures, Hosting & Updates
- WHEN — 2026
- WHERE — BIC Wearfield, Sunderland & the North East
- HOW — A trust-first website at launch, then steady monthly improvements as new services, grants and tools came in
A New Business,
Big Purchases.
RetroFlow was a new business, run by Ben Wilson and Eddie Hetherington from the Business and Innovation Centre in Sunderland, with a leadership team that came up through construction. Ben wanted a local agency. A heat pump or solar system is a big decision for a homeowner, and nobody hands that money to a company they have never heard of. So the site had to build trust fast: who RetroFlow are, what they are accredited for and what grants you can get.
- Aimed at homeowners paying for their own upgrade
- Accreditations and backstory front and centre
- A free assessment one click away on every page
Green, Orange,
and Flowy.
RetroFlow’s leaf and flame logo set the palette: a deep teal and forest green for trust, a warm orange for heat and a sunshine yellow for solar. We used Epilogue for headings and Jost for body text, so the site reads clearly on any phone. Flowy, the RetroFlow mascot, waves from the top of each service page and turns up again in the email signatures, so the brand feels friendly rather than corporate.
- Palette taken straight from the logo
- Epilogue headings and Jost body text
- Flowy the mascot used across pages and signatures
Two Services,
Two Clear Doors.
Most visitors want one of two things: a heat pump or solar panels. So the homepage opens split down the middle. Orange on the left for heat pumps, green on the right for solar and batteries, each with its own “Book FREE assessment” button. Underneath sit the grant amount, what RetroFlow install and their accreditations, before anyone has to scroll far.
- Split hero: heat pumps on one side, solar on the other
- Book buttons for each service in the header
- Grant figure and accreditations in the first section
An Estimate
in a Minute.
Homeowners want a rough idea before they talk to anyone. We added a solar estimate popup where you type your address and see your roof from above, and a heat pump checker that asks a few quick questions. When RetroFlow changed heat pump estimate provider, we swapped in the new widget across the whole site and tested it end to end the same day. The contact section has both forms as tabs, so nobody has to hunt.
- Solar estimate popup with an address finder
- Heat pump estimate on every page
- Heat pump and solar forms side by side as tabs
The Money Part,
Said Plainly.
Grants are why many people get in touch, so they get their own space. The Warm Homes Plan page explains who qualifies and how to check. The homepage states the Boiler Upgrade Scheme range and what it depends on. A finance page explains the options for spreading the cost, with the right disclosure in the footer. When Ben corrected a figure or a grant changed, we updated it quickly.
- Warm Homes Plan page with an eligibility check
- Boiler Upgrade Scheme range shown with its conditions
- Finance page and footer disclosure
Badges People
Recognise.
For a retrofit installer, accreditations do a lot of the selling. The site shows MCS, TrustMark, Gas Safe, RECC, PAS 2030 and more in a tidy two-row strip, and we added ISO 9001, 45001 and 27001, CHAS and Constructionline Gold as RetroFlow earned them. A numbers section shows the team’s experience and homes upgraded, and a park homes section explains what park home owners can claim.
- Accreditation strip on every key page
- New badges added as soon as they came through
- Park homes section for a specific audience
Built for
Thumbs First.
Most people find RetroFlow on their phone. On mobile the two services stack, each with its own button. We rebuilt the mobile menu as a clean full-screen overlay with every link and both book buttons in reach, and fixed the header so it never covers a heading. Each fix was checked on real devices.
- Stacked service blocks with their own buttons
- Full-screen mobile menu with both CTAs
- Fixes tested on real phones
Every Email
Does a Job.
We designed HTML email signatures for the RetroFlow team in the same brand: logo, Flowy, contact details, a “Book your free energy assessment” panel and the accreditation badges. Every email the team sends now carries the offer and the proof. We supplied a signature for each person and team, with a simple guide for setting them up.
- Signatures for each person and team
- Booking panel and accreditation badges built in
- Step-by-step install guide
