Engineering Credibility,
Online.
James Wooton needed a website that made his energy and engineering consultancy look as serious as the work he does. We planned it, designed it, built it, then photographed James in his Ascend kit so the site shows the real person behind it.
- WHO — Ascend Services Group (first launched as Ascend Energy)
- WHAT — Information Architecture, Web Design & Build, Logo Artwork, Photography, Hosting
- WHEN — 2025–2026
- WHERE — North East England, working UK-wide
- HOW — A dark, technical WordPress site, a clean set of logo files and a branded photoshoot
Technical,
Not Corporate.
Ascend started as Ascend Energy, a retrofit and energy consultancy run by James Wooton. He sent us the sites he liked and what he thought of each. He liked the professional feel of the consultancies, but wanted his own to look more technical and cooler. The first job was a clean, lead-focused website that positioned Ascend as a name you can trust with energy and engineering work.
- Website planning and wireframing first
- Mobile-first design with a clear call to action
- Services, sectors and trust markers up front
- Contact form and a CMS ready for a blog
Words Before
Pixels.
Before any design, we mapped the site out in a plain document: the navigation, the homepage headline and intro, the value points, the services, the about page and the accreditations. James could check every page and every line before we built anything. When Ascend later grew from energy into wider engineering and project delivery, that structure made the change easy to carry through.
- Information architecture for every page
- Homepage headline, intro and calls to action written up front
- Services grouped so buyers find their need quickly
- Room for later phases of the business
From Canva
to Proper Artwork.
James’s logo lived in Canva. We set it up as proper artwork files, with the climbing “A” mark in lime and steel grey and the ASCEND wordmark, in light and dark versions. The website takes its palette straight from the mark: near-black backgrounds, lime for buttons and links, and soft green glows that feel like energy without using a single stock lightbulb.
- Logo files in SVG, EPS, PDF and PNG
- Versions for light and dark backgrounds
- Lime, leaf green and steel grey palette
- Montserrat throughout the site
A Clear Offer
for Big Sites.
The site now presents Ascend Services Group as a client-side lead for industrial projects and energy assets. The homepage says what Ascend does in one line, then sets out four services: project delivery and management, M&E optimisation and FM strategy, strategic energy consulting and energy procurement support. Sectors and a three-step “how we work” follow, then a contact block with a promise to reply within one working day.
- Four service pages with their own calls to action
- Sectors: automotive, data centres, logistics and large estates
- Diagnose, govern, optimise: a simple way of working
- Built on WordPress with a blog ready for articles
The Real Person
Behind Ascend.
Consultancy is bought on trust, and stock photos don’t build it. In February 2026 we photographed James in a modern office setting, wearing his branded Ascend polo: at the laptop, on the sofa and in conversation with a client. The shots give the site, LinkedIn and proposals a consistent, professional face.
- Working, portrait and meeting shots in one session
- Branded clothing kept visible in frame
- Edited high-resolution files for web, print and social
Ready for
Any Background.
We also cut James out of a set of the best shots and placed him on brand backgrounds: a dark digital city in Ascend green, a soft lime gradient and a plain grey. That gives him ready-made images for profile pictures, banners and social posts, all matching the website.
- Cut-out portraits on green, grey and dark backgrounds
- Head-and-shoulders and arms-folded crops
- Made to sit alongside the website palette
Photos That
Earn Their Place.
The photos went straight into the site. The About page opens with James in his Ascend kit next to the line “Bridging the gap between engineering reality and commercial strategy”. It is the same person a client will meet on site, which is the point.
- Shoot images used on the About page
- Every page built on the same dark, green-lit layout
- Works on phones as well as desktop
Dave has just finished the final touches on my website and I couldn’t be happier with the result. The new site has made my business look far more professional and accessible, and the improvement is clear straight away. Throughout the whole process, Dave handled my constant tweaks and requests with the patience of a saint. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and he genuinely listened to what I needed. The end product is exactly what I hoped for, and more. I’d highly recommend Dave to anyone looking for a talented, patient, and professional designer. Brilliant service from start to finish!
