One Name,
Every Stage.
Charlie Dancer is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, producer and DJ. In the summer of 2014 he had a run of gigs coming up and nothing that looked like a brand. We gave him a logo, business cards, a Facebook page that listed his dates, and a flyer for his Newcastle headline show.
- WHO — Charlie Dancer, musician, vocalist, producer and DJ
- WHAT — Logo, Business Cards, Facebook Cover & Profile Pictures, Editable Photoshop File, Gig Flyer
- WHEN — July 2014
- WHERE — North East England · gigs in Newcastle, Sunderland, Corbridge and Edinburgh
- HOW — A moodboard first, then one simple wordmark used across print and social
Gigs Booked,
No Brand Yet.
Charlie had six dates in July 2014, from Bannerman’s in Edinburgh to Pop Recs in Sunderland, Corbridge Festival and Head of Steam in Newcastle. He needed to look like one act wherever people found him: on a poster, on Facebook or on a card handed over after a set. We started with a moodboard of singer-songwriter album covers and gig posters to agree the feel before any design work.
- Moodboard of album art and posters to set the tone
- One look for print, social and gig promotion
- Everything delivered in the same month
A Name
in a Box.
The logo is a widely spaced wordmark inside a thin square frame, with his four roles set underneath. It is simple on purpose. It reads from the back of a room, sits on top of a busy photo without fighting it, and works in black on white or white on black.
- Framed wordmark with spaced capitals
- Line for his roles: multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, producer, DJ
- Black, white and reversed versions in vector and PNG
Something to Hand
After the Set.
We designed three cards. The contact side sits on a warm paper texture with icons for phone, email, SoundCloud and Facebook. Two photo sides put the framed logo over portraits taken outdoors, so the card feels like a mini record sleeve. (Contact details blurred here.)
- Contact side with phone, email, SoundCloud and Facebook
- Two photo backs to choose from
- Print-ready with crop marks
The Dates,
Front and Centre.
His Facebook page was where fans checked when and where he was playing. The cover photo carries the logo and the full list of July dates over a summer portrait, and we made square profile pictures to match. An editable Photoshop file was part of the handover too.
- Facebook cover with all six July dates
- Matching square profile pictures
- Editable Photoshop file included
Monday Night,
Head of Steam.
For his show at Head of Steam in Newcastle on Monday 21 July, with Dalaro, Nico Cara and Immy Williams in support, we made a flyer in three versions. Each uses a live photo, the framed logo and a single line of details: doors, price, date and venue. Black and white for posters, colour for screens.
- Three versions from live photos
- Support acts, doors, price, date and venue in one line
- Sized for print and for sharing online
Pictures That
Carry the Name.
The whole kit is built on photographs: relaxed portraits outdoors for the cards and Facebook, and live shots for the flyers. Because the logo is just a thin frame and type, it sits over any of them and still looks like the same act.
- Outdoor portraits for cards and social
- Live gig shots for flyers and posts
- Logo placed to suit each photo
