How Much Does a Logo Cost in the UK? Logo Design Prices Explained
branding logo design cost

A professional logo in the UK typically costs £500 to £3,000, with a full brand identity costing more. Here's what you get at each price, what Northern charges, and how to avoid paying twice.

The short answer: A professional logo for a UK business typically costs £500 to £3,000. Freelancers usually charge £500 to £1,000 and agencies more, according to UK benchmarks from Whito. Online marketplaces can be much cheaper, but you often get less thinking and fewer files. At Northern, logo design projects cost £1,800 to £3,500. A logo refresh is at the lower end. A new logo with a full identity, guidelines and templates is at the higher end. Small jobs, like redrawing an old logo as a vector file, cost from our £250 to £500 day rate.

What are typical logo design prices in the UK?

Whito, a UK research site, published logo and branding benchmarks in June 2026. It found prices range from about £30 on an online marketplace to £30,000 from a London agency (Whito: Logo and branding costs UK 2026). Its typical UK ranges are:

    • Freelance designer: £500 to £1,000
    • Small agency: £1,000 to £2,000
    • Mid-size agency: £2,000 to £3,500, with strategy and options
    • Brand starter pack (logo plus guidelines): £1,500 to £5,000
    • Full brand identity (strategy, identity system and assets): £5,000 to £20,000

These are typical market ranges, not fixed prices. The same job can cost very different amounts depending on who does it, how much research goes in and what you get at the end.

What does Northern charge for a logo?

Our logo projects sit within our branding range of £1,800 to £3,500. You get a fixed quote before we start, and the price doesn't change unless the brief does.

    • Logo refresh: lower end of the range. You keep what people already recognise and we tidy it up so it works everywhere.
    • New logo with full identity: higher end of the range. A new logo, colour palette, typefaces, brand guidelines and templates.
    • Small jobs: £250 to £500 day rate. For example, redrawing an existing logo as a vector file so a sign maker can use it. We quote a fixed price first.

Every project includes full ownership of the logo and all the source files: vector files for printers and sign makers, and PNGs for your website and social media. Northern isn't currently VAT registered, so there's no VAT on top.

What do you get for your money?

The price gap between a £50 logo and a £2,500 logo isn't about the drawing. It's about what happens before and after it.

    Research

A good designer starts by asking who your customers are, who you compete with and what you want people to feel. A logo that looks like your competitors' won't help anyone remember you.

    Ideas and refinement

You should see a small number of considered concepts, then rounds of changes to get one right. Not 50 random options.

    Testing

Your logo has to work at the size of a favicon in a browser tab and on the side of a van. It has to work in one colour, on dark and light backgrounds. A proper designer tests all of this.

    Files and guidelines

You need the right files for print, web and signage, and simple guidance on how to use the logo, so it looks the same everywhere.

    Ownership

You should own the copyright and all the files. Check the terms before you pay. Some cheap services keep the rights or only hand over a low-resolution image.

Is a cheap logo ever a good idea?

Sometimes. If you're testing an idea and need something by the weekend, a cheap logo can get you started. But know the risks:

    • No originality. Some cheap logos are built from templates or stock icons that hundreds of other businesses also use.
    • Trademark problems. If it looks like someone else's mark, you might have to change it later.
    • Missing files. You may only get a JPEG, which looks blurry on signs and can't be edited.
    • Paying twice. Many businesses end up paying for a proper rebrand a year or two later, plus the cost of reprinting signs, vans and stationery.

The logo is often the cheapest part of a brand. Signage, vehicle livery, uniforms and print all cost more, and all of them have to be redone if the logo changes.

Do I need just a logo or a full brand identity?

    It depends where you are.

    • New business that needs to start trading: a logo with a colour palette and typefaces is usually enough to begin with.
    • Growing business with a logo that doesn't work any more: a refresh keeps the recognition you've built and fixes the problems.
    • Business that's changed what it does or who it sells to: a full brand identity, starting with research, makes more sense.

A full identity takes longer. For us, it usually takes 6 to 12 weeks, because the early weeks go on research. A logo on its own or a refresh is quicker. We agree a dated plan with you at the start.

How can I get the best value from a logo designer?

    1. Write a short brief. Who you are, who you sell to, three competitors and three brands you like. It saves time and money.
    2. Ask what's included. How many concepts, how many rounds of changes, which files and who owns the copyright.
    3. Look at past work. Does the designer's portfolio show range, or does everything look the same?
    4. Get a fixed price. Avoid open-ended hourly billing for a logo.
    5. Think about where it'll be used. Tell the designer about your sign, van, website and social media so they design for all of them.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a logo cost for a small business in the UK?

Typical UK prices for a professional logo are £500 to £3,000, according to Whito's 2026 benchmarks. Freelancers usually charge £500 to £1,000. Northern's logo projects cost £1,800 to £3,500 with a fixed quote up front.

How long does logo design take?

A logo on its own or a refresh is usually quicker than a full identity. A full brand identity takes 6 to 12 weeks with Northern, because it starts with research.

Will I own my logo?

You should. With Northern you get full ownership and every source file, including vector formats for print and PNGs for screens. Always check the terms with any designer before you pay.

What file formats should I get with a logo?

Vector files (such as SVG, EPS or PDF) for printers and sign makers, and PNG files with transparent backgrounds for websites and social media. You also want versions for dark and light backgrounds.

Can you redraw my existing logo?

Yes. If you've lost the original files or only have a blurry image, we can redraw it as a clean vector file. That's charged at our £250 to £500 day rate with a fixed price agreed first.

Is a logo the same as a brand?

No. A logo is one part of your brand. A brand also includes your colours, typefaces, tone of voice and how you present yourself everywhere customers see you.
